 While people inside the Internet Marketing field love Internet Marketing for the possibilities it provides, it is also painfully obvious that people who do not work in this sector tend to view it through a highly critical eye. There are however many misconceptions floating around in relation to Internet Marketing and, frankly, the internet in general. While folks who work in the arena know how respectable and fulfilling it can be, at the same time, it poses a problem: do you want to be judged for it in your regular life?

 Many folks who make money in Internet Marketing use pseudonyms. They choose fake names for themselves because they would like to keep their IM life separated from everything else they do, especially if they are only working in IM part time. Many newer as well as part time Internet Marketers are worried about becoming identified by their employers and family or friends. Obviously, even if you do not worry about this sort of thing it is still important: should you choose a pseudonym for the work you do online?

 There are many benefits associated with using pseudonyms. The primary benefit, by a long shot, is having the chance to construct an identity for yourself that is completely separate from your personal life and makes it easier to make sure they stay totally separate. If you perform in a specifically rigid or judge-mental discipline offline it is probably very important that you keep all of your internet activities away from their eyes and using a pseudonym will help you protect yourself from that.

 If you are interested in work inside of several different niches, using a pseudonym will help you be able to do that. This way they’ll create expert and niche identities for themselves that lend credibility to their businesses without having to worry about looking like a dabbler. You don’t have to worry about a person saying “but what about the conflicting market that you are also selling in?” because you’ll be doing that selling under a different name?

 Sadly, however, one of several greater reasons that folks do IM business under a pseudonym is that they are trying to evade the responsibilities that come with running a business, like paying taxes. They seem to believe that if they do not do business under their legal names then they do not have to report any of the money that they earn to the IRS. It is very important you don’t fall for this flawed logic. Even if you do business under some other name the money will still be seen as income and you’ll be held responsible for it. Further, the IRS will find the people that endeavor to cheat the system usually get found out.

 Whether or not you decide to use a pseudonym for the business you are doing is absolutely your choice. For some people it is basically simpler to have one name for their daily offline life and another for their online ventures. For others keeping everything under the same name is actually easier because it means they have fewer things to remember.
