One of the buzz phrases in internet marketing is viral marketing, and it has become a useful marketing tool. As well as being extremely cost efficient, viral marketing builds over the long term and when done correctly can gain an almost unstoppable momentum.
Just what is viral marketing? Simply put, it is any type of marketing presentations that encourage the message to be passed on from one person to another – hence the description.
A common example with internet marketing is a viral eBook or report. You create an eBook on something that readers in your niche will relate to, and then inside the report you place links back to your blogs. If your report or Ebook contains something of value it’ll be passed on because readers will want to share it with other people. The website links or advertising included inside the report will be read for years and years after you first posted it.
What about other kinds of viral marketing?
One of the hottest activities at the moment is viral videos. You only have to look at the success of sites such as YouTube to see the enormous power of video as a way of marketing your business. The same ideas apply to viral videos as viral reports – it needs to be items of interest that readers will want to share with others. Videos that are amusing, funny, or unique tend to do well. You will need to get creative and deliver something people will want to actually spend a few minutes watching.
One other form of viral marketing is using your email and email signatures. Using free email services can be teamed with viral marketing to great effect. At the bottom of every email sent through the service was a link back to where users could sign up themselves. This became very successful as more and more people used the service to send emails. You can duplicate this by adding your link to the bottom of all of your emails, encouraging the reader to click back to your site.
In order for viral marketing to be as effective as you can it is important to aggressively encourage people to pass on your materials. Make it straight forward for them to do so. If you’re creating a viral report, for example, a good approach is to include a sales page with the report. Other internet marketers can then plug it in and distribute it to their customers without having to create any new posting themselves.
