Congress has attempted several times to pass what's been called a Marketplace Fairness Act to solve the problem, with no version making it through the process. The most recent of these acts is in suspension, waiting for the Court's decision. Both bills include exemptions for small sellers and ways to monitor sales tax collections and make the process more fair to all types of sellers.
When writing this guide, we reached out to the marketer community to collect case studies and learnings about creative marketing strategies. You can use lead magnets or discounts to incentivize email sign-ups and using an email management service like MailChimp allows you to create triggered autoresponders that will automatically send out pre-made welcome email campaigns when they subscribe.

Understand that whatever you're going to do, you'll need traffic. If you don't have any money at the outset, your hands will be tied no matter what anyone tells you. The truth is that you need to drive traffic to your offers if you want them to convert. These are what we call landing pages or squeeze pages. Many retailers are choosing to use online marketplaces (also referred to as eCommerce marketplaces or eMarketplaces) to sell their products instead of, or in addition to, selling through their own websites. An online marketplace is a website where third-party sellers list products for sale, and the sales of such products are processed by the operator of the website (marketplace operator). Some online marketplaces offer products for sale by the marketplace operator as well as third-party sellers. Others exclusively serve as a marketplace for third-party sellers.

Amazon, the elephant in the room of the sales tax discussion, has changed its stand on the internet sales tax issue. Originally, the company fought to have internet sales tax imposed on purchases, but now it has distribution centers (tax nexus) in almost every states. In 2017, the company announced that it would charge sales tax on all its transactions, except for states that don't have sales tax. 

Digital marketing's development since the 1990s and 2000s has changed the way brands and businesses use technology for marketing.[2] As digital platforms are increasingly incorporated into marketing plans and everyday life,[3] and as people use digital devices instead of visiting physical shops,[4][5] digital marketing campaigns are becoming more prevalent and efficient.
Digital marketing planning is a term used in marketing management. It describes the first stage of forming a digital marketing strategy for the wider digital marketing system. The difference between digital and traditional marketing planning is that it uses digitally based communication tools and technology such as Social, Web, Mobile, Scannable Surface.[57][58] Nevertheless, both are aligned with the vision, the mission of the company and the overarching business strategy.[59]
The other important factor in this equation is that the variables keep changing. It’s not like you can build a massive spreadsheet today and be ready for business tomorrow. Many states who were watching the Supreme Court case from the sidelines are about to pass new legislation. Six of them – Illinois, Iowa, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, and Vermont – already had laws in the works prior to the Supreme Court decision that were loosely modeled on the South Dakota law, and are slated to go into effect by January of next year. Others, such as Washington, emboldened by the Court’s decision, quickly introduced new legislation. Washington’s Department of Revenue announced the state’s new tax on out-of-state retailers on August 3 which will take effect on October 1 of this year.

c.  contracts and/or other relationships with online marketplace facilitators and/or delivery companies resulting in in-state services, including, but not limited to, payment processing and order fulfillment, order management, return processing or otherwise assisting with returns and exchanges, the preparation of sales reports or other analytics and consumer access to customer service.
Digital marketing methods such as search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), content marketing, influencer marketing, content automation, campaign marketing, data-driven marketing,[6] e-commerce marketing, social media marketing, social media optimization, e-mail direct marketing, display advertising, e–books, and optical disks and games are becoming more common in our advancing technology. In fact, digital marketing now extends to non-Internet channels that provide digital media, such as mobile phones (SMS and MMS), callback, and on-hold mobile ring tones.[7] In essence, this extension to non-Internet channels helps to differentiate digital marketing from online marketing, another catch-all term for the marketing methods mentioned above, which strictly occur online.

However, e-commerce lacks human interaction for customers, especially who prefer face-to-face connection. Customers are also concerned with the security of online transactions and tend to remain loyal to well-known retailers.[65] In recent years, clothing retailers such as Tommy Hilfiger have started adding Virtual Fit platforms to their e-commerce sites to reduce the risk of customers buying the wrong sized clothes, although these vary greatly in their fit for purpose.[71] When the customer regret the purchase of a product, it involves returning goods and refunding process. This process is inconvenient as customers need to pack and post the goods. If the products are expensive, large or fragile, it refers to safety issues.[64]
And then there is the specter of federal legislation. Congress has introduced no fewer than four different proposals for a federally-governed tax on internet sales. With names like Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement, Click Through Nexus, Marketplace Fairness Act, and the Online Sales Simplification Act of 2015, these proposals were all designed to simplify tax collection for retailers and states by standardizing state-level sales taxes.
If you are a seller making sales through an online marketplace in this manner, you are generally considered the retailer for purposes of such sales. However, if the marketplace operator is also providing fulfillment services, the marketplace operator will be considered the retailer if it has possession of the property at the time of sale and it can transfer ownership to the purchaser without further action by you. For additional information, please see publication 114, Consignment Sales. (Please note: If the marketplace operator has the authority to transfer ownership, but a different person, such as a fulfillment center operator, has possession of the property at the time of sale, then neither person would be a consignee, even if the two are related entities, and you would still be considered the retailer.)

As for Amazon, which has been fast building its own last-mile delivery network and expanding into physical retail with the acquisition of Whole Foods and the openings of Amazon Go and Amazon Books, the ruling likely won't have any impact because Amazon already collects sales tax on its first-party sales in all 45 states that have a state-imposed sales tax.
Online marketing is the practice of leveraging web-based channels to spread a message about a company’s brand, products, or services to its potential customers. The methods and techniques used for online marketing include email, social media, display advertising, search engine optimization, and more. The objective of marketing is to reach potential customers through the channels where they spend time reading, searching, shopping, or socializing online.

Squeeze pages, which are glorified sales pages that attract people and direct their attention towards a single action of providing their email address, are created in a variety of methods. The better they are, the more likely they'll convert.
A key benefit of using online channels for marketing a business or product is the ability to measure the impact of any given channel, as well as how visitors acquired through different channels interact with a website or landing page experience. Of the visitors that convert into paying customers, further analysis can be done to determine which channels are most effective at acquiring valuable customers.
The Wayfair ruling paves the way for states to reach outside of their own borders when they collect taxes. This means that a small business in Texas with just a handful of single customers in New Jersey may soon have to comply with the Garden State’s taxes — and many small business owners regard this development with concern.   The fear for many of us is that the power to tax outside of state’s border will only be the beginning, and will be followed by the power to regulate businesses outside their jurisdiction.
