However, that has not necessarily been the case for affiliate sellers on Amazon. Because these sellers didn’t have a physical presence in many, or in some cases any, areas where their products were sold, they often did not charge sales tax. But now that they are required to, it may not be that easy for those sellers to just flick a switch and become compliant.

If you are a seller making sales through an online marketplace in this manner, you are generally considered the retailer for purposes of such sales. However, if the marketplace operator is also providing fulfillment services, the marketplace operator will be considered the retailer if it has possession of the property at the time of sale and it can transfer ownership to the purchaser without further action by you. (Please note: If the marketplace operator has the authority to transfer ownership, but a different person, such as a fulfillment center operator, has possession of the property at the time of sale, then neither person would be a consignee, even if the two are related entities, and you would still be considered the retailer.)
I wanted to update you on the Internet Profit scam. a) I received this “scam” notification via a phone call, voice mail message that sounds fairly legit, which could suck people in, b) they are using Amazon.com to try to “legitimize” their scam, and c) they also are using a .org address in their link to further make people feel that this scam is real. Buyer beware. It’s easy to be received, they are using all the tricks.

In reality this is one of the tactics that many scam websites use called false scarcity. It’s basically lying about how many spots you have left in the program, or if this was an e-book (it’s not) lying about how many copies you are going to give away. The real truth is that there are UNLIMITED spots available for Massive Internet Profits because this scam is being promoted by many affiliates all around the world who are looking to make a quick buck. 100’s of people will be signing up to this scam each week and every person that does will see the same BS message that there are limited spots. Chances are every single person will see “only 12 spots remaining”.
Several states have crafted internet sales tax legislation, which has produced lawsuits by online sellers like Wayfair and Overstock. As a test case, South Dakota has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit the Quill case. Specifically, S. Dakota asked the U.S. Supreme Court "to overrule Quill’s physical-presence requirement which currently prevents the State from requiring out-of-state retailers to remit taxes for sales made within South Dakota."
Culp, the Smart Furniture founder, agrees that the lack of clarity is what hurts businesses the most. "I suspect most Americans would agree that both the burden and the benefit of taxes should be shared fairly," he continues. "What freaks online retailers out is less having to pay the taxes, and more having to manage the new burdens of thousands of tax jurisdictions, myriad filings, and compliance at a scale they cannot administer."
(a) 830 CMR 64H.1.7(3) does not apply if the vendor’s only contacts with Massachusetts are that in-state customers may access a site on the vendor’s out-of-state computer server. Further, the mere fact that in-state customers may access such site, without more, will not be considered a factor in determining a vendor’s tax collection obligation. See ITFA § 1105.

You can register on the BOE website at www.boe.ca.gov, by selecting New Registration, and then select Register a business activity with BOE. Once you have registered, you may pay any use tax due by filing your return. You can also register to report use tax in person at any of our field offices.

Paid social media can attract new customers to your brand or product, but you’ll want to conduct market research and A/B testing before investing too much in one social media channel.
I also received the 2 of the exact same recorded voice message. The one on 9/20/18 (213-568-4114, left a website address as amazonprofits.org. The 2nd one, the same recorded message (same voice, etc), came from phone number 850-842-5658, and website address left to contact or shop at was shoppersweb.org. I did not try them until recently due to a job loss. So here about 3 weeks later, although I figured they were scams, I tried to check into them. When I tried to check out either one of those websites, I was sent to a website that sold website domains. Interesting - doesn't sound like they keep the website very long either.
Your Brand Persona and Target Audience. When you eventually start creating content, you have to know who you’re talking to and tailor your brand voice to appeal to them uniquely. If you aren’t targeting the right audience (those people who will lean in to hear what you’re saying), you won’t find success. And, if you can’t find a way to stand out, you’ll blend into the hordes of other brands competing for attention in your industry.
