Online networking, when executed correctly, allows you to build valuable relationships in online forums and groups that can help you advance your business. You could meet peers and fellow experts with whom you could collaborate or partner up with for a project, or you could provide value to your target audience by sharing your knowledge and winning over some customers as a result. No matter what, though, the goal with this type of marketing is purely relationship building and not selling outright.

The case confronted the constitutionality of a law South Dakota passed in 2006, which requires online retailers to collect sales taxes if the business generates more than $100,000 in annual sales to South Dakota residents, or more than 200 separate transactions with state residents. Up until this point, remote sellers had taken their lead on this issue from a 1992 Supreme Court ruling – Quill Corporation v. North Dakota – and been only required to collect sales taxes on purchases if they had a physical presence in the state where the goods were bought.
Several states have crafted internet sales tax legislation, which has produced lawsuits by online sellers like Wayfair and Overstock. As a test case, South Dakota has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit the Quill case. Specifically, S. Dakota asked  the U.S. Supreme Court "to overrule Quill’s physical-presence requirement which currently prevents the State from requiring out-of-state retailers to remit taxes for sales made within South Dakota."
E-commerce brings convenience for customers as they do not have to leave home and only need to browse website online, especially for buying the products which are not sold in nearby shops. It could help customers buy wider range of products and save customers’ time. Consumers also gain power through online shopping. They are able to research products and compare prices among retailers. Also, online shopping often provides sales promotion or discounts code, thus it is more price effective for customers. Moreover, e-commerce provides products’ detailed information; even the in-store staff cannot offer such detailed explanation. Customers can also review and track the order history online.
By using Internet platforms, businesses can create competitive advantage through various means. To reach the maximum potential of digital marketing, firms use social media as its main tool to create a channel of information. Through this a business can create a system in which they are able to pinpoint behavioral patterns of clients and feedback on their needs.[30] This means of content has shown to have a larger impingement on those who have a long-standing relationship with the firm and with consumers who are relatively active social media users. Relative to this, creating a social media page will further increase relation quality between new consumers and existing consumers as well as consistent brand reinforcement therefore improving brand awareness resulting in a possible rise for consumers up the Brand Awareness Pyramid.[31] Although there may be inconstancy with product images;[32] maintaining a successful social media presence requires a business to be consistent in interactions through creating a two way feed of information; firms consider their content based on the feedback received through this channel, this is a result of the environment being dynamic due to the global nature of the internet.[29] Effective use of digital marketing can result in relatively lowered costs in relation to traditional means of marketing; Lowered external service costs, advertising costs, promotion costs, processing costs, interface design costs and control costs.[32]
Internet Vendor.  A vendor that derives sales from transactions consummated over the Internet, whether such transactions are: (a) completed on a website maintained or operated by the vendor itself, or a website maintained or operated by a related person or a person with which the vendor contracts, including a marketplace facilitator and/or (b) fulfilled by a related person or a person with which the vendor contracts.  An Internet vendor, in addition to its Internet sales, may also derive sales from orders completed other than over the Internet.
A fulfillment center is a location, generally a warehouse facility, where orders for tangible personal property are received, packaged, and picked up by common carrier for shipment to the customer. Some sellers use their own fulfillment centers to fulfill all of their orders, including orders processed by marketplace operators. Other sellers contract with a third-party that operates a fulfillment center (fulfillment center operator) to fulfill their orders. In some instances, the fulfillment center operator is a retailer itself that provides fulfillment services to third-party sellers at the same facilities from which it ships its own products.

Sales taxes bring in big revenue for states, but they have to act carefully. If one state charges more sales tax than its neighbors, people start to cross state lines to buy big-ticket items. If the economy takes a dive and people buy less, states feel the crunch too. And more recently, buyers have started deliberately avoiding state sales taxes by buying on the internet. 
However, e-commerce lacks human interaction for customers, especially who prefer face-to-face connection. Customers are also concerned with the security of online transactions and tend to remain loyal to well-known retailers.[65] In recent years, clothing retailers such as Tommy Hilfiger have started adding Virtual Fit platforms to their e-commerce sites to reduce the risk of customers buying the wrong sized clothes, although these vary greatly in their fit for purpose.[71] When the customer regret the purchase of a product, it involves returning goods and refunding process. This process is inconvenient as customers need to pack and post the goods. If the products are expensive, large or fragile, it refers to safety issues.[64]
Internet sales made by out-of-state retailers to California customers are also treated no differently than other remote sales made to California customers. Generally, remote sales by out-of-state retailers to California customers, whether made over the Internet, by telephone, or mail order, take place outside of California because the property is delivered to a common carrier outside the state for shipment into California, and are, therefore, not subject to sales tax. However, California customers do owe the use tax on those sales, unless a specific tax exemption or exclusion applies. Out-of-state retailers that are engaged in business in California are required to register with the California State Board of Equalization (BOE), collect the use tax from California customers, and pay the tax to the BOE.
The third and final stage requires the firm to set a budget and management systems; these must be measurable touchpoints, such as audience reached across all digital platforms. Furthermore, marketers must ensure the budget and management systems are integrating the paid, owned and earned media of the company.[67] The Action and final stage of planning also requires the company to set in place measurable content creation e.g. oral, visual or written online media.[68]
The criteria and metrics can be classified according to its type and time span. Regarding the type, we can either evaluate these campaigns "Quantitatively" or "Qualitatively". Quantitative metrics may include "Sales Volume" and "Revenue Increase/Decrease". While qualitative metrics may include the enhanced "Brand awareness, image and health" as well as the "relationship with the customers".
